SPINNING THIS WEEK.... 4/9/23 - 4/15/23

Sorry……….., I know, it’s been a minute. I’ve got some catching up to do….., that said, IT’S JAZZ WEEK! We’ll start the selections off with a BANG! This first one is the “must have of ALL must-haves”.

This album is “SICK”, if you’re into jazz…….. this might be right up there with Sketches or Kind of Blue. Bob Cranshaw’s upright bass solo on “Summertime” alone is worth the purchase price. Find a copy of this, you’ll thank me for it. I have the pressing to get, it’s the 2010 Pure Pleasure RCA Victor LPM-2712 180g repress. AND, it may be the best sounding record I own. It’s just an absolute joy to listen to. Well alrighty…., let’s move along to the next fantastic vinyl…

Holy cow! Yep, Stan Getz AND Chet Baker playing together! Sublime……….., two masters at the top of their game. So tight! Obviously also a “must have”. The recording is also excellent, this pressing, Waxtime 950745, 180g ORANGE vinyl is a real treat. No surface noise……… at all. Nice amplitude on it as well. Get some! Movin’ on………

WOW! Yeah buddy…………, ANOTHER “must have” jazz vinyl……. Mobley is fantastic! Backed by a wrecking crew of exceptional musicians (including Cranshaw on upright bass again!) Hank is letting it all hang out. Real hip daddy-O’, Blue Note BLP 4230 pressed on 180g virgin vinyl. Wickedly deep noise floor, beautifully recorded and mastered….. and stupidly inexpensive, I paid $17.99 for a sealed copy from a local record shop. Go find this, you’ll love it! Unfortunately, we have only one more vinyl for the week….. but, it’s a great one too…. Can you imagine? All four of this weeks selections being “must haves”? Yep……

Everyone must have a copy of this masterpiece….., Bossanova at it’s finest. I’m going to have to do a Brazilian jazz deep-dive one of these weeks, the groove is unmistakable. Truly timeless. My 180g DOL DOL1013HG pressing features a bonus version of “Corcovado” and both versions of “The Girl From Ipanema”. This is easily my favorite Getz period. This record should be a staple of any jazz collection. Make it so. Until next time………., tragically hip and in a body I don’t recognize anymore…, how ‘bout you? Peace. Out.
